Term 2 Opening Mass: A Spirit-Filled Beginning.

At La Salle Catholic School, we believe that every great journey starts with God’s grace. As we step into Term 2, we come together as one Lasallian family for our Opening Mass—a sacred tradition that sets the tone for a term of growth, learning, and faith in action.

This celebration is more than a ritual; it is a powerful moment of unity, where students, teachers, and staff pause to invite God’s presence into our classrooms, friendships, and endeavors. Through prayer, scripture, and the Eucharist, we seek blessings for wisdom, strength, and compassion to guide us in the weeks ahead.

In the spirit of St. John Baptist de La Salle, we recognize that true education nurtures both the mind and the soul. As we gather in worship, we reaffirm our commitment to:

  • Faith – Trusting in God’s plan for our school community.

  • Service – Living out the Lasallian call to care for one another.

  • Excellence – Pursuing our best in studies, character, and leadership.

We encourage every member of our community to embrace this spirit-filled beginning, carrying its inspiration throughout Term 2. Let us move forward with gratitude, courage, and a shared mission to make this term meaningful and impactful.

Message from the School Director and Bro. Weldetsen

The Mass began with a warm welcome from the School Director, Bro. Paulos, who officially reopened the term after a one-month break. In his remarks, he encouraged both learners and staff to return to their duties with renewed enthusiasm and purpose.

Bro. Paulos spoke passionately about the Five Core Lasallian Values: Faith in the Presence of God, Concern for the Poor and Social Justice, Respect for All Persons, Quality Education, and Inclusive Community. He reminded the school community that these values are not just ideals, but guiding principles that shape our daily interactions and learning experiences.

He concluded by urging learners to make the most of every opportunity available — in academics, sports, clubs, and spiritual life — emphasizing that excellence is achieved through commitment and consistency.

Following him, Bro. Weldetsen took the podium to share a short reflection on St. John Baptist de La Salle, the founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and patron saint of Catholic teachers. He highlighted how St. La Salle dedicated his entire life to the service of others, particularly in the education of the poor. Learners were encouraged to reflect on this legacy and to see their own education as a gift and a responsibility to serve others.

Mass Celebration

The Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr. Denis, who led the congregation in a reverent and uplifting liturgy. The Mass was filled with meaningful participation from both students and staff, creating an atmosphere of joy and spiritual connection.

Opening Hymns and Procession

The celebration began with a vibrant procession led by altar servers, choir members, and student representatives. The school choir delivered a beautiful rendition of opening hymns that set the tone for worship and reverence.

Scripture Readings and Homily

Students from different classes took part in the readings and responsorial psalm. In his homily, Fr. Denis focused on the theme of renewal and responsibility. He reminded the learners that every new term is a fresh chance to grow — not just intellectually, but spiritually and morally. He challenged everyone to treat their time in school as a sacred journey, with God as the constant companion and guide.

Vote of Thanks

After the final blessing, Mr. Alex, a member of the teaching staff, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks. He expressed deep appreciation to Fr. Denis for presiding over the Mass and for his timely and encouraging message.

Mr. Alex also thanked the school administration, the Brothers, teachers, non-teaching staff, and parents for their continuous support in shaping the learners holistically. Special recognition was given to the student choir, liturgical team, and all students who took part in various roles during the Mass, noting how their involvement made the celebration more meaningful and community-driven.

Looking Ahead with Faith

As we move into Term 2, La Salle Catholic School remains committed to offering not just quality education, but also a strong moral and spiritual foundation. The Mass marked the beginning of a new chapter — one rooted in faith, excellence, and unity.

May the blessings received during this sacred celebration guide our learners and staff through a successful, peaceful, and enriching term ahead.
