Lasalle students excel in the Taekwondo grading belt exam and qualify for the next belt

The Kenya Taekwondo Association conducted its second grading belt assessment on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at school. Twenty learners were successfully assessed in different tae-kwo-ndo belts to mark their promotion to the next belt.

According to David, the Taekwondo trainer,  the grading exam is  practical. The students are assessed in the following areas: knowledge, skill, technique , power, coordination, flexibility and discipline. 

Students kick-start their journey with a white belt by learning and being trained in basic taekwondo techniques. Through discipline and hard work, a student can move through the ranks and attain the highest belt, which is black.


The Swimming Gala at Makini School has been re-scheduled .

According to the Peak Sports Kenya, the swimming gala at Makini School has been re-scheduled to 24th June 2023 to allow national swimming trials to take place.



The Red House Team wins the Inter-house Swimming Gala

The red house team won the highly coveted swimming trophy with a total of 83 points during the inter-house swimming gala for Pre-School and lower primary learners held at Stedmak on Wednesday, 5th April 2023.

The purple house came second with 75 points; the yellow house was position 3 with 57 points while blue house was number 4 with 55 points. There were many events which learners competed in such as noodle race, Kickboard race, sorting event, underwater event, water musical chairs, 25 m freestyle, 25 m backstroke and individual medley race.

The inter-house competitions  are integral at school. They help build  physical fitness,  boosts self-confidence, promotes healthy rivalry among the learners as well as assist them identify their potential.

Every child is assigned a house T-shirt during admission. Parents are encouraged to check with the school administration for the right house T-shirt  for the child and acquire the same.

 

La Salle School tops in the Instrumentals and Female Voices in the Music Festivals


La Salle Catholic School was crowned the top School in the Female voices and Instrumentals categories in the Embakasi/Kasarani Cluster Music Festivals held on Saturday, 1st April 2023 at the Brookshine School.


Ruto Kigen emerged position one overall in the Solo piano presentations under the instrumentals category. The La Salle female voices  won the female voices categories in a thrilling performance.

Other categories our school participated in and did well are modern dance,  French poem, my bag poem, techno culture poem, Shairi (Vipaji) and Scottish dance.

 


Approximately a total of 56 private primary schools (from Machakos, Kiambu and Nairobi counties) graced the event. 

The Embakasi/ Kasarani music festivals offered opportunities for the learners to showcase their artistic talents in music as well as help develop soft skills such as collaboration, communication and confidence.

The school management is impressed with this performance.  We wish to congratulate all learners who participated in the music festivals for such an outstanding performance. We also thank our teachers who trained learners well within a short period. We also extend our gratitude to other staff  and parents for their support.


La Salle students become acquainted with the game of chess 

Chess is among the games that learners can play during their free time.  A good number of learners are playing chess with the help of their teachers.

As a way of popularizing chess among learners, 10 learners from our school participated in the chess championship on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Urafiki Carovana School, Kahawa Sukari. The games were individualized, and each learner played five games. A total of 22 schools and more than 50 learners participated in the chess competition. Our learners performed remarkably well.

Chess as a game is entertaining and also helps learners learn basic life skills that can make them productive and successful adults. Playing chess inculcates discipline in the players,  boosts mental capacity as well as their concentration.


La Salle School shines in the Social Studies Contest

La Salle School was ranked position 3 among 69 schools in the  Kasarani Private School Cluster Social Studies Exam Contest for Class 8. We scooped a total of 400 points out of 424.

The social studies contest was held at the Holy Family Basilica Parochial Catholic School on Wednesday, 22nd March 2023. The social studies contest included written and oral questions which were administered individually and in groups.

Five students from our school took part in this contest. Our students were carefully selected through a series of assessments and only the best five made it to represent the school.

The contest is integral for preparations of learners for Kenya certificate of primary education (K.C.P.E) examinations.

The school wishes to congratulate Junella, Shamarah, Trevor, Gicobi Gitari, Riella and Laurraine for their exemplary performance in the social studies contest.

Basketball Friendly Match

We hosted basketball friendly match on Saturday, 11th March 2023. We played against Shepherd Junior academy and our team did well. 

Athletics Championship

The School Management  introduced the athletics programme as part of its quest to identify and nurture every learners’ potential. 

The  learners are trained in races of 800m, 100 m sprints, 200m sprints , 400m , 75m, 4*400m relay, among others.

 The school's sports department in collaboration with the Private and International Preps Schools Sports Association (PIPSSA) organized an athletics  championship at  the Moi international  Sports Centre  Kasarani on Saturday , 11th  March 2023.  

A total of 12 schools participated in this competition. Our team consisted of 22 learners ( both boys and girls). 

The athletics championship was a good starting point to  build confidence and boost morale of our athletics team.

Swimming Gala at St Hannah’s Preparatory School Karen

La Salle School won a total of 8 medals (3 gold medals, 1 silver and 4 Bronze Medals) in the swimming gala held on Saturday, 4th March 2023 at St Hannah’s Preparatory School Karen.

Forty Seven swimmers from our school took part in the  competition.  At least 250 swimmers from a total of 12 schools and swimming clubs graced the swimming gala.

Soccer 

Our soccer teams played friendly football matches on Saturday 18th February 2023 with Fanaka Academy. The matches were age-based. Our school won in the following categories under 9, under 11, under 13 and under 15. We lost in the under 7 category.

World scholars Cup Nairobi 2023

Our learners performed outstandingly in the regional round of World Scholar’s Cup competition held on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th February 2023.  Light International Academy and Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) co-hosted the event for Junior (super Junior and Junior) and senior categories. The world scholar’s theme this year is reconstructing the past.

All the 57 learners from our school qualified for the second round of the world scholar’s cup. Jabali Omollo emerged the best student overall in social studies while Robyn Lulu Taabu won 8 gold medals. The second round of the competition will be hosted this year in Doha, Qatar; London, UK; and Seoul, South Korea.  More details shall be shared.

One thousand five hundred (1,500) students drawn from approximately a total of 50 schools in Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda took part in this year’s world scholar’s cup in the junior category (12-14 years).  The participants were grouped into 500 teams consisting of 3 members each.

Team debates, collaborative writing, scholar’s bowl and scholar’s challenge are some of the activities the scholars participated in.

The World Scholar’s cup was founded in 2006. It offers students globally opportunity to deepen knowledge in numerous areas beyond academics, develop soft skills such as communication and critical thinking as well as boost their confidence. Read more here https://www.scholarscup.org/.

Swimming Gala at Moi Educational Centre

La Salle school swimmers won silver and bronze medals in the recently concluded Swimming gala held on Saturday 18th February, 2023 at Moi educational center, Nairobi.  A total of 28 pupils from our school competed against more than 500 swimmers from 13 schools in Kiambu, Machakos and Nairobi regions.

50M Freestyle, 25m backstroke, 25m breast stroke and 25m butterfly were the events that swimmers took part in.
