Celebrating Virtue of Love this Valentine’s Day at La Salle Catholic School
"Let all that you do be done in love." – 1 Corinthians 16:14
Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate love, kindness, and selflessness—values that lie at the heart of our mission at La Salle Catholic School. While many recognize this day for exchanging gifts and words of affection, we see it as a beautiful opportunity to reflect on the deeper meaning of love—a love that is rooted in faith, service, and virtue.
At La Salle, we believe that love is more than an emotion; it is a commitment to living with integrity, respect, and compassion. Inspired by the teachings of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, our school embraces 12 core virtues that guide our students, teachers, and the entire school community in fostering an environment of genuine care, understanding, and growth.
Living Out Love Through Lasallian Virtues
💖 Dignity – True love begins with respect—respect for oneself, for others, and for God. We encourage our students to walk in dignity, knowing they are fearfully and wonderfully made.
📖 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” – Psalm 139:14
💖 Seriousness – Love is not just about grand gestures but also about responsibility. Whether in friendships, academics, or family life, a sincere heart demonstrates commitment and dedication.
📖 “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.” – Romans 12:9
💖 Calmness – In a fast-paced world, love flourishes in moments of stillness and peace. Taking time to listen, understand, and offer a gentle presence to those around us is a true act of love.
💖 Humility – Love is selfless and giving. It does not seek to be recognized but instead lifts others up. At La Salle, we teach our students the value of humility—the strength to admit mistakes, the courage to serve others, and the grace to celebrate others’ successes.
📖 “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” – Philippians 2:3
💖 Prudence & Wisdom – Love requires discernment and thoughtfulness. We encourage our students to make wise choices, considering the impact of their words and actions on others.
📖 “The wise in heart are called discerning, and gracious words promote instruction.” – Proverbs 16:21
💖 Patience & Self-Control – Love is not just about big moments but also about endurance. It is about forgiving, waiting, and choosing kindness even in difficult situations.
📖 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4
💖 Gentleness & Zeal – A kind word, a helping hand, or a simple smile can brighten someone’s day. Enthusiasm for serving others is a reflection of love in action.
📖 “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” – Proverbs 15:1
💖 Vigilance & Prayerfulness – As educators, mentors, and caregivers, we remain watchful and prayerful, ensuring that our students feel safe, supported, and loved. We lift our students in prayer, guiding them toward a path of faith and virtue.
📖 “Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11
💖 Generosity – Love is most powerful when it is shared. This Valentine’s Day, let us practice generosity—not just through gifts but through acts of service, words of encouragement, and kindness to those who need it most.
📖 “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” – Acts 20:35
A Call to Love Beyond Valentine’s Day
While Valentine’s Day is a special occasion, true love is shown every day—in how we treat others, in how we serve, and in how we choose to live with faith and integrity. The greatest gift we can give is not just chocolates or flowers, but our time, our kindness, and our commitment to building a loving community.
As we celebrate this day, let us embrace love in its purest form—a love that is patient, kind, forgiving, and enduring. Let us be inspired by the virtues we uphold, living out our faith with joy, enthusiasm, and a spirit of service.
💬 “Love is not about how much you say ‘I love you’ but how much you prove it every day.”
🙏 May your hearts be filled with God’s love today and always. Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at La Salle Catholic School!
