Spreading Love and Kindness: La Salle Catholic School's Charity Visit to DECAS Centre

At La Salle Catholic School, we believe in nurturing not only the minds of our learners but also their hearts. As part of our holistic education approach, our school organized a charity outreach during the first term of the 2025 academic calendar — a meaningful visit to the elderly under the care of Disability Empowerment Capacity and Sustainability (DE-CAS).

A Mission Rooted in Compassion

On this special day, our team of learners and staff visited the DE-CAS centre, carrying with them essential foodstuffs to support and encourage the elderly and other community members in need. The visit wasn’t just about giving — it was about connecting, listening, and learning from the lived experiences of the elderly, many of whom live with disabilities or have been marginalized by age, poverty, or health limitations.

Sharing Food, Stories, and Smiles

The food donations were joyfully received, but the most powerful moments came from the interactions: learners sitting with the elderly, hearing their stories, and offering companionship. These touching conversations reminded us all of the value and dignity of every individual, regardless of age or ability.

“We brought food, but we left with full hearts,” one student reflected after the visit.

The learners learned firsthand what DE-CAS stands for — “Engaging the Heart, Transforming the Mind.” This aligns with La Salle’s own mission of educating responsible citizens who serve their communities with love and integrity.

Learning from DE-CAS's Impact

DE-CAS is an organization focused on empowering people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups through economic, educational, and psychosocial support. Their work includes:

  • Promoting health and dignity for persons with disabilities.

  • Enhancing skills and livelihoods for caregivers and support groups.

  • Educating communities on inclusion and social justice.

Through mentorship programs, self-help group support, and skill-building initiatives, DE-CAS uplifts communities often overlooked by society. Our students were inspired to see these efforts in action and witness how a little help can make a lasting impact.

A Lesson in Humanity

This charity visit was not just another event on our calendar — it was a turning point for many students. It awakened a deeper sense of empathy, responsibility, and community consciousness. It also reinforced the idea that education extends beyond classrooms and textbooks.

As La Salle Catholic School, we are proud to walk alongside organizations like DE-CAS in shaping a more inclusive, compassionate society.

Thank You

We are deeply grateful to the DE-CAS team for their warm welcome, and to all the families and staff members who contributed to making the visit possible. Your generosity is helping to transform lives and foster a culture of care in our young learners.

Together, let’s keep engaging hearts and transforming minds.
